The Oklahoma Cheetah Track Club is a new branch of the Detroit Cheetah Track Club. The Cheetah Track club was established in 1978 to help inner city youth earn scholarships to college through academic and athletic achievement. In past years, more than 80% of Detroit Cheetah high school seniors earned scholarships to college, helping them to create the lives they dreamed of.

In 2018 the founding coach and president, Coach Harry Weaver II, relocated to the Tulsa area and is continuing this great work with Oklahoma Cheetah. Oklahoma Cheetah operates year-round and participates in events sponsored by the USA Track and Field Association.  Our purpose is to provide a place to develop high morals, integrity and discipline, while providing student athletes with opportunities to perform in front of top college scouts and further their careers in track and field.

This year, we have a grouping of students that represent local communities that include Tulsa, Bixby, and Jenks, just to name a few.  We expect a number of our athletes will qualify for the USATF Youth Outdoor Nationals June 22-28, 2020 and the National Track and Field Junior Olympics Championship July 27-August 2, 2020.

The coaches, their families and parents, have funded the club out of pocket and with fundraising events.  As you know, travel costs are very high, not to mention the price to outfit the club.  Typical expenses per athlete include: complete track uniform ($225), track shoes ($85), event cost (varies per event $4-$10), lodging per night ($50 – four to a room), and food for two meals ($30 per day).

The club enters highly competitive meets, most out of state because that is where the college and university scouts are.  On an average, three out of four of our graduating high school seniors receive scholarships for both their athletic and academic achievements. Our team grade point average is 3.4.
